Besse-sur-Issole

situated in Issole river valley (Var department), around 30 km from Toulon. Surrounded by hills, vineyards and natural lake Besse-sur-Issole is the typical, old and quiet Provencal village where time has stopped.

Besse-sur-Issole is the birthplace of Gaspard de Besse, famous "Robin Hood Provençal". Like his English precursor, Gaspard followed the general principle: stealing from the rich and giving to the poor. He was killed after the trial in Aix-en-Provence in 1781. To this day his legendary treasure has not been found.
