Île Saint-Honorat

is the smaller of two famous
Lérins Islands not far away from Cannes (40 minutes by ferry). Saint Honoratus founded there a monastery around year 410 and since then until now the island has been inhabited by monks.

Fortified monastery was built in the 11th century to protect monks from Saracens.

The newer part was constructed in the19th century but it was based on old structure.

The Lérins Islands (les Îles de Lérins) are a group of five Mediterranean islands.
